new years resol-what?
How many of my peeps out there (all four of you, lol) do New Years Resolutions? And how are those resolutions coming? I did make a list for the new year, not so much "resolutions" but more of a list of goals i wanted to accomplish this year. Well, the year is half over and the list got lost somewhere in this house and I just now found it. I figured maybe if I post it then maybe some stuff would get done on it!
Things to do in 09:
-Finish my quillow (i started this back in 01' before i moved to colorado)
-Make Ty a quillow and a quilt out of his baby blankets
-Do 5 crafty projects (make that 4 after the mommys day project)
-Organize photos online and in albums
-Take a scrapbooking and/or sewing class
-Take a dance class
-Use cloth shopping bags
-GET ORGANIZED
-purge
-get rid of clutter
-stop buying stuff i dont need
-make a master cleaning schedule
-Make a vision board
-work on blog (i guess i can check this one off!)
-Get Ty on a schedule
-Adopt a healthier lifestyle
-Try a new recipe once a week
-Find a church home
-Finish everything I start
-Make a family "credo" or rules/morals to live by
-Make some friends -Find my purpose (feelin a little lost right now..)
So, there's my list...I hope this will help in my motivation to "get er done!"

a mothers day project
I forgot to post this! I saw this project somewhere and immediately thought of my mom! She loves scrabble and this was perfect for me to make. After searching thrift stores for a used scrabble games with no luck, i just used the one we already had here. In the instructions, it said to glue tacks to the letters and then push the tacks through the board. Unfortunately, half of the letters popped off, so i just glued them to the board itself ( i figured my mom wouldnt be changing the names on it anyway). Another thing I would change would be to cut the openings the same size bcus i had a hard time sizing the pictures to the openings after i had already cut them. All in all, i was pleased the way it came out! http://photojojo.com/content/diy/scrabble-board-picture-frame/

A wedding...
My friend Allison got married last weekend up in the bay area. I was originally just a spectator, but ended up as a bridesmaid! We were excited to have a mini vacation and go somewhere different. We did leave later than planned (we drove) and Ty threw up in the car...not fun....But once we were on our way, Ty and I slept most of the way, lol, sorry hubby! The wedding site was really nice, it was in a rose garden and all the flowers looked amazing (of course, didnt get any pics of them, grrrr).

kids say the darndest things

Being the parent of a two yr old is quite the adventure, i must say. Now that Ty is older, he talks alot more and i can actually understand most of it! lol. Some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth sometimes truly cracks me up and leaves me wondering where he picked that up.
tidbits from ty :
Ty brings me an old envelope with some flash cards in it and says "special delivery, here's you letta mommy."
"thanks Ty"
"you welcome mommy."
Ty will be doing something and put something in its place and say "perfect!" how does he know it's perfect? sigh...
Ty comes in the room with no pants or diaper and says, like he's shocked "oh no! my diaper is gone!"
After several tries at a healthier homemade chicken nugget, i finally found a recipe that could rival Mcd's. After putting a plate of these homemade nuggets on the table, my darling child says "how about peanut butter jelly, mommy? come on mommy, let's go to the kitchen!"
just take deep breaths...whooooossssaaaaaaa.....
Joel was outside with Ty playing and since we live next to the AFB, we see a lot of planes... "look daddy a comet" it's really a jet, but how does my kid know what a comet is?
We were leaving cousin's house and it was dark outside. Ty takes his hand outa mine to make prayer hands and say "starwight star bright, first star i see tonight....." and then seeing the moon "moon bright, moon bright, first moon i see tonight..."
So, Ty comes over to me and climbs in my lap and just snuggles for a minute. I ask him "whatsa matta for u?" he replies "no, not matta for me, i feel happy"
"you feel happy, ty?"
"yeah mommy, i feel happy"
"me too, ty"
Ty decided to not listen to me at the docs office and got at time out, "mommy happy or mad? mommy mad...." I had to try real hard not laugh at that one...
"come on mommy lets go to the kitchen, its time fooooor juice!"
I was feigning sleep because i didnt want to read a book for the 85th time "wake up mommy, wake up, time for reading!"
"can i play too?" when im sewing
We were outside playing and Joel came outside when he got home from work Ty says, "look daddy friends"
For whatever reason, Ty feels the need to introduce to me people now "thats my friend mommy, say hi mommy, hi mommy!"
walking to get the mail "let's take this path or this path" think he may be watching too much dora
If there is something he doesnt really want he says, no thank you..and sags his shoulders and sulks away
My child also talks to his toys and to himself :
"dont worry cup ill save u! reeeeaaaach! Gotcha!"
"help tylen help! Don't worry, i'll help you tylen!"
"open it mommy open it, hurry!"
"i did it! great job, tylen"
"great job mommy, that's ex-a-went job"
"i cant fix it, i cant do it" and sags his shoulders and look very sad...
Joel was playin video game and missed, "good job daddy, or maybe not" lol, thanks for your support...
"wanna watch nooooggin, how bout playhouse disney?" I like how my son now requests what he wants to watch on tv....
Pretty much everyday he says something new that cracks me up...oh that kid

Happy Easter!
Happy Easter everyone!
"For God so loved the world, that He gave HIs only begotten son , that whosever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life" John 3:16
In my attempt to get out of the house more and not spend a whole lot of money, I am always on the lookout for free or low cost events for Ty to go to.
So, we went to the "hop and shop" easter egg hunt. This was free but we had to register from 9-10. Joel had school, so he went for about an hour and by the time we got there, the 1-3yr old time slots were full...ah well. However, there was a cool playground there and Ty loves being outside and playing on playgrounds. That is where we spent the majority of our time before he got his face painted and colored. Here are some photos and a lil video of our day. It was a really nice day and he was good and worn out (and a little stinky) when we left.

look at that concentration

taking the stage!
slidin!

daddy and son day!
Saturday there was an event at The Orleans called "touch-a-truck" and J really wanted to take Ty. I kinda thought he would be to little, but apparently i was wrong! I decided to stay home because i wasnt feeling the best (Don't worry about me, although it was rough having the house all to myself with no son or husband, i managed to cope.. ;).
So, here is some pics from the boys day out. Ty had a great time climbing and exploring the different cars and trucks...

I wish...
I wish.......
- that I had a house.
- that I had maid for the afformentioned house.
- that my house was clean and organized.
- that Ty's room didn't look like a storage space.
- that everywhere you step in this house, that you didn't step on something.
- that Ty would sleep in his own bed everynight at a normal hour.
- that Ty and I were on a normal schedule and not the crack one.
- that Ty could go to sleep on his own and not have to lay on us.
- that when Ty was sick he didnt have to roll and toss and turn his fever body all over me, making me sweat!
- that my husband and I could practice making babies without Ty interupting us every. single. time. we. try! GRRRRRR!!!
- that i could sleep a full night in the bed with my husband.
- that my son would eat more than just pbnj, chicken, noodles, chips, french fries and yogurt.
- that Ty was not currently climbing all over me, like he does everytime i get on the computer
- that sometimes Ty wasnt so clingy and would just leave me be for 10min!
- that I could go to the bathroom bymyself again
- that my sister had a manny.
- that my nephews would behave how they know how to.
- that I had an endless supply of money and not have to go back to work.
- that i was better at keeping in touch with old friends.
- that i could resist buying things "because they are a good deal".
- that there was a magic pill for pms and weight loss, lol.
- that i could get the hundreds of 15-30sec videos off my phone and onto the computer.
- that i knew more about politics and whats really going on in our economy and how it is going to affect my family.
- that i was more motivated to go back to school.
- that i knew what i want to be when i grow up.......

Bionic baby
Well I don't know how many of you know about Ty's leg braces. Ty was pretty much born bow-legged. My aunt even commented when he was only four weeks old "Is that baby bow-legged?"
SO, as he got a older and started walking it was really noticeable. I kept asking his doctor about his legs and he said Ty would straighten out. Fast foward to Ty's 2nd bday and he got fitted for leg braces.
Needless to say he was not happy about having his legs in those things....
It took him a couple of days to get used to them. And once he learned he could still run and jump with them on , he was back to his normal bad self . Ty even knows how to take them off and out them on....grrrr...I thought keeping pants on him would deter him...not so much..Joel was not happy at all about the leg braces. I think he thought TY might be looked at as handicapped or something and that people might feel sorry for Ty when they see him. But, ya know, he is only two and should only have them for a year and most likely he won't remember any of this. Now, if he were a little older and in school, I could understand the anxiety about them.
I wish i had better before pics of his legs, but he has straightened quite a bit now, even Joel has noticed the difference. He even calls them "bionics" because it sounds more empowering than leg braces or forrest gumps, lol.

hard times....
I did not write this...i saw this in newsletter that i get and thought i'd share....a little food for thought
-These Hard Economic Times
I keep asking myself, "Has the world gone crazy?" What are people talking about when they say "these hard economic times?" I am so confused because I hear so many people say these are such hard economic times but, at the same time, what I see happening with my own eyes and hearing with my ears is a totally different story.
Let me give you some examples what I mean. Are these examples of hard economic times?
Last year we spent more at Christmas and all year shopping than the year before.
Americans spend 500 million dollars a year to have their teeth whitened -- not cleaned, just whitened to look nice.
A single mom on welfare spends $350 on a cell phone-- not on the calls, just the cell phone.
On a home shopping show they were selling American Girl dolls for $135. The woman selling it said "Kit is our most popular doll."The other woman said "That is probably because Kit represents the Depression Era and girls nowadays relate so well to that because they have to sacrifice and give up so many things in these hard economic times." They sold out of the doll. This meant several thousand of these poor little girls who have had to give up so much received a $135 doll for Christmas. What was it they had to sacrifice? Maybe it was the $25 outfits that went with the doll. (I have never paid $25 for an outfit for myself let alone for a doll!!)
A woman just lost one of her part time jobs. She was sobbing and crying because her family was going to have to sell their house, which they could no longer afford. For the past several years they have been making very good money but they have been spending it on everything including $150,000 for decorating their home, several trips a year for the whole family to travel across the country and to Canada for sports events their sons wanted to play in, buying a couple of new cars every year, eating out frequently and the so on.Even after she lost her job they still took another cross country trip to go to a game. After coming totally unglued about the thought of having to sell the house she was asked if they might be able to save the house if they would cut back on their spending a little. Her reply was, "No way. I hate to scrimp and save and do without. I won't live like that." As my son in law loves to say "Allllrighty then..."
My brother just met a man who restores hot rods for a living. When asked if things are getting harder for him the man laughed and said "No, I'm doing better than I ever have and I need to hire someone to help me." My brother is now working for that man. He is getting paid to sand people's car engines so they will look pretty and smooth. People have so much money they can pay bunches to have their engines sanded? Go figure. For those of you who restore cars, don't yell at me! My dad has restored Model A and Model T cars for years, so I know all about car restoring.
Here's my favorite: A sales person selling a $1500 piece of jewelry said, "We know things are so rough in these hard economic times so we have put this on 5 easy payments for you." They sold out of it. Do you know how contradictory that is? If things are so hard, what in the world are people doing buying $1500 pieces of jewelry, even on 5 easy payments?!?!
I don't have anything against people buying jewelry, dolls, cell phones or restoring hot rods. What I do have a problem with is people moaning and groaning about how hard these times are and then taking off to go shopping or play a game of golf.

DIY
.......or as my hubby called me, Handy Mommy. So I have this furniture in Ty's room which I've had for quite a few years now. My mom got it from a friend of the family that was their childhood furniture. It is faded yellow and white, kinda girly, but hey, it's good furniture and it works great. I looked into having it refinished to match Ty's crib/bed, but never had it done. And with looking at these crafty and DIY and refurbishing blogs, I decided to tackle it myself!! I started with the chair, here's a before (note the lovely artwork on the wall, designed by Ty)

Ready for kindergarten?
Tylen is really smart. And I am not just saying that because i'm his mommy (well maybe a little). Before he turned two, he knew pretty much all of his letters and not just singing ABC s, he can tell you what letters are what. When we took his two year old pics, instead of just saying cheese, he was tryin to read the letters on blocks they had as props. The girl who took his pics, teaches during the day said "he is going to be bored in kindergarten" lol.
I can't take total credit for his genius though...he learned some from tv, blues clues, sesame street and now Word World, and all his learning toys he got from the fam christmas before last, but we do encourage it though!
So, we started giving him small words to spell-cat, dog, mom, dad...we would write it on the paper and he would spell it and say the word. Then couple of weeks ago, i heard him spelling words on his own.
Sometimes, i feel like i'm bragging, but then again on the flip side, Ty only eats pbnj, chicken, french fries, chips and noodles for the most part. He still wont stay sleep in his own bed the whole night and doesnt go to bed before 2am. So, I guess it's a give and take.
here is a video of him in action.....it is a little long, he spells, counts to 100 and counts to 10 in spanish...
and yes he is in a diaper, i dont know when that boy is gonna potty trained!

Here we GO!
Ok, let's try this again...I started this blog back in august but never posted anything! So, here is my revamped effort to keep you all posted on what going on in our lives!
It will be a little about sewing and crafty things, a little about my wanna-be foody-ness, but mostly about the adventures of being a mommy and everything that goes with it!
